Jacqui Cho 조정연

I am a PhD fellow with swisspeace, a practice-oriented peace research institute, and the Graduate School of Social Sciences at the University of Basel.

My main research interests include peace processes, trajectories of armed groups, and international (knowledge) politics of Africa. My work is particularly inspired by critical perspectives on conflict and peace, Historical International Relations, and reverse ethnography.

I was born in South Korea, raised in the UK and currently live in Switzerland. I hold a BA in Politics and International Relations and an MPhil in African Studies from the University of Cambridge.

I previously worked with the United Nations in East Africa and New York, with the National Assembly and the Korean Broadcasting System in South Korea, and with NGOs involved in refugee relief and empowerment work in Greece and Lebanon.

I'm drawn to questions of [in]justice and identity, which translate in different ways to my professional and personal lives, including my academic research on peacemaking, running a book club, living in intentional community, and mobilising people for equal opportunities for displaced people.
